Living in Málaga

Everything is on foot or by metro and bus. The airport is about 15 minutes away and the high-speed train reaches Madrid in under three hours. The city has a growing technology sector, universities and a busy food scene, and it stays lively all year, not only in summer.

The homes

Mostly apartments: flats in historic buildings in the centre, newer blocks with pools towards the west and Teatinos, and penthouses and a few villas on the east side, in El Limonar and Monte Sancha.

Who it suits

  • People who want city life all year
  • Buyers who would rather not need a car
  • Remote workers who want good connections

Good to know

  • Málaga has limited new holiday-rental licences in many districts. Check before you buy to let.
  • Older buildings in the centre may have no lift or parking.
  • East-side neighbourhoods such as Pedregalejo and El Palo feel like seaside villages inside the city.
